Lincoln County Board of Education Votes To Return 10 Commandments, Other Documents to Schools

The Ten Commandments and two other historical documents that our nation was founded on, will once again be displayed in Lincoln County schools.

The Ten Commandments and two other historical documents that our nation was founded on, will once again be displayed in Lincoln County schools. The Lincoln County Board of Education passed a motion on an 8 to 0 vote to display the three documents in Lincoln County Schools.  Under state law The Ten Commandments cannot be displayed alone; they must be paired with the preamble to the U.S. Constitution and a portion of the Declaration of Independence. Under Tennessee's state law passed in May 2026 (Public Chapter 924), local boards of education have the option—but are not required—to display the Ten Commandments alongside historical U.S. documents in public schools.
